Characteristics oF Gold
24 Karat Gold is virtually indestructible. You can go to our gold education page to learn more about its unique properties and scarcity. For your general purchase, there are 3 important properties to remember.
Your pure gold will not tarnish. Gold is found in nature and often deep in the earths' crust. Theoretically, you could leave your 24K Gold in a bucket of water for 100 years, then pull it from that bucket of water and polish it like new. Ten, fourteen, and eighteen karats golds may tarnish over time, but not because of the gold content, but due to the alloys that are mixed with the gold.
Gold is malleable. It will scratch and dent. Like all metals, surface scratches and minor dents will accumulate. However, the gold is rarely lost, but more likely shifted.
Old gold is as good as new gold. Pure gold is an element. It does not have alloys mixed with it. The beauty of working with 24K Gold is that is can easily be remolded into new items and it can easily be polished or refinished to its original vibrance.
CARING FOR YOUR GOLD
One of the beautiful characteristics of pure Gold is that it is non-toxic and hypoallergenic. To care for your Gold, keep it away from harsh chemicals and simply clean with warm water, light dish soap and a soft cloth. The most important aspect of caring for your Gold is keeping it away from harsh surfaces that will result in scratches or dents. With that being said, most of us who wear 24K Gold have come to embrace the imperfections that accumulate with wear, and the personalization that accompanies this rare metal.
GENERAL WEAR & TEAR
There is no avoiding the fact that Gold is more malleable compared to other metals. Tiny dents and surface scratches will accumulate on your 24K Gold. Take your Gold to any local jeweller and they can polish or restore the finish easily. It will polish to perfection.
